TILT

Erkunt Tractor was acquired by Mahindra & Mahindra in 2017. As one of the results of this acquisition, in 2019, Mahindra wanted to create a crossbred tractor segment made out of different existing components from both Erkunt and Mahindra sides. Among the components, there were a tiltable steering column used by Mahindra and forebody, as well as a cluster instrument used by Erkunt. The mission was to design an applicable interception corresponding all these components.

Aiming For Something New

Design a tiltable dashboard instrument attached to the steering column by combining all three main parts below; forebody, cluster instrument, and tiltable steering column.

Designing Around The Givens

  • Use the connection spots for attaching the design.

  • Cover the space in the middle of the main dashboard body.

  • Place the cluster instrument at 48° angle and design accordingly.

  • Solve how to connect the cluster instrument to the front connection spot of steering column.

Hunting Inspirations

Seeking Viable Details and Form

Tilt was designed as a requirement for a crossbred tractor segment composed of various components from Mahindra and Erkunt sides. It was both functional and aesthetic outcome that arose from getting together of three main dashboard components of the tractor; forebody, steering column, and cluster instrument.

Checking All Details

Used 3D printed example for the plastic part and bended metal sheet for the connections to try out the assembly scenario before going for the injection molding.
